Ingomar Ranch
Landscape Picture

Located in Eastern Montana, the Ingomar Ranch is host to one of the most impressive Antelope populations in the country. The over 250,000 acre Ingomar Ranch, or Sun Coulee Ranch, is a division of 71 Ranch LP, which leases it's hunting to Self-Guided Hunts. It is located in Ingomar, MT, in the center of Eastern Montana. We have mostly clay or "gumbo" soil with pockets of sandy and rocky areas. "Gumbo" is what we affectionately have come to call this clay soil. The area is mostly short grass country consisting of Western, Salt Sage, and Sagebrush that the wildlife forage on. In early spring and summer there is Buffalo, June, and Japaneese Brome grasses that fatten up the animals nicely.

The terrain here is made up of rolling hills, coulees, and flats that seem to go on forever. When you visit for the first time it is hard to judge distance. It seems that things are much closer than in actuality, for the horizon goes on as far as you can see. The sky lines are wonderful and seem to be endless. These sights make this land really grow on you and you soon will see what a special area in prime Eastern Montana it is!

WEATHER

December-February

These are our cold and snowy months with a normal snow of 6 to 8 inches and temperatures ranging from 20 degrees to 20 degrees below zero. On clear and calm days the prairie dogs will be out chattering. The antelope certainly have our respect in how tough and resiliant they are to the climate. They survive in weather that can be very harsh. This seems to make a difference in how their horns grow.

March-May

The rainy season with temperatures between 20 and 60 degrees.

June-August

We can have some rain during this season. June rains can last for 2 to 4 days with the temperatures ranging from 60 to 85 degrees. There can be a few hot days but normally June is a beautiful, mild month. July and August are normally dry with temperatures from 75 to 95 degrees. There may be a few hotter days and this is also when we can have some heavy thunder storms.

September-November

This part of the year is usually very nice weather. We can have some moisture but usually only lasting for a day at a time. Frost can come anytime but normally doesn't stay cold for very long. November is normally a dry month with temperatures ranging from 50 dgrees down to 30 degrees. Winter can appear anytime but usually doesn't hit until late in the month of November with the exception of a few possible snow flurrys from late October thru November.

We are a semi-dry area with between 9 and 13 inches of moisture per year. We also seem to have a light breeze to windy conditions with always a calm part of every day all year round. The saying goes: "If you don't like the weather in Montana just wait 5 minutes and it will change."
