![]() Although we can generally anticipate the type of weather to expect while on your hunt, Montana weather can change very quickly. Please try to prepare for a variety of conditions and check the weather reports as your trip nears to determine the type of clothing needed. Temperatures can range from a highs in the 90's and lows in the 30's in August and September to sub-zero later in the season with everything in between. Ingomar, located in eastern Montana, is relatively flat compared to parts of central and western Montana. High winds are frequent throughout the year and there is no natural protection. However, after it rains, the wind will be your best friend. When the ground is wet it turns to what we affectionately refer to as 'Gumbo'. All ranch trails & roads as well as any county roads that are not gravel become impassible for vehicles. It also makes it difficult to cover much ground on foot. Fortunately August and September are typically very dry months. And even when it does rain it is usually only a matter of a couple hours before the ground has dried and you're on your way. Martinsdale, located in central Montana, is in the foothills of the Crazy Mountain range and Lewis & Clark National Forest. Weather conditions in this area are much more unpredictable than in eastern Montana. Being on the eastern slope of the Rockies, and still in mountainous terrain, localized weather patterns can create hazardous weather in a very short period of time. Roads may become impassible and will take much longer to dry out compared to eastern Montana. However even with wet ground you will still be able to get around compared to Ingomar.
